Most of us are hostages, some of us are Hostages for Life. Hostages to ideologies, social
pressures & mores, fashion and the marketing blitzkrieg, a never ending
onslaught on our senses.
Wikipedia
defines hostage as follows: in modern days, it means someone who is
seized by a criminal abductor in order to compel another party such as a relative, employer, law
enforcement, or government to act, or refrain from acting, in a particular
way, often under threat of serious physical harm to the hostage(s) after
expiration of an ultimatum.
More
than anything else, we are hostages to the marketing blitzkrieg. We are
living some body elses life most of the time, when we respond to &
adopt the latest in fashion, be it clothing brands, accessories, cars, holiday
travel, even the houses we buy & the locations we chose to
live in.
We
are responding to the feeling of inadequacy as presented by the marketing
blitzkrieg 24 x 7. Our minds have been seized by an abductor
compelling us to act or refrain from acting in a particular way, often under
threat of serious feelings of inadequacy or being left out.
